If you are fascinated with woodchucks and you want to know what they want to eat, then you’re at the right place. Woodchucks are said to be omnivores. This mean that all woodchucks can eat other animals, insects, plants, or even fruits. So, woodchucks will eat pretty much anything that they come across, which is good to know should you try and feed them.

Fruits

All woodchucks are able  to eat fruits. Woodchucks eat oranges, bananas, apples, blueberries, grapes, mulberries, strawberries, squash, pumpkins, and watermelon. These are just some of the many fruits that woodchucks are able to eat.

Vegetation

Vegetation is a big part of the diet of woodchucks. In fact, woodchucks eat carrots, corn, lettuce, asparagus, acorns, cabbage, potatoes, onions, cucumbers, celery, garlic, kale, peppers, and other various vegetables.

Flowers & Plants

Woodchucks will sometimes eat flowers and plants as well. Woodchucks can eat dianthus, daisies, geraniums, dandelions, daylilies, dahlias, holly locks, hostas, begonias, coleus, clover, gladiolus, hydrangeas, impatiens, and lupine. Woodchucks can also eat echinacea, asters, iris, petunias, liatris, marigolds, morning glories, nasturtiums, peonies, poppies, roses, tulips, verbena, vinca, and sunflower plants. Some woodchucks will even eat egg plant, garden plants, lilies, lantana, rose bushes, pepper plants, raspberry plants, pumpkin plants, and, tomato plants.

Animals & Insects

Woodchucks are able to eat birds, bunnies, eggs, mice, ducks, ticks, rabbits, chicken, chipmunks, moles, squirrels, fish, frogs, rats, turtles, and other insects. Also, woodchucks will eat ants, yellow jackets, grubs, cat food, dog food, turtle eggs, and duck eggs.

Other things that woodchucks eat are bird seed, grass, peanuts, garbage, milkweed, peanut butter, mushrooms, marshmallows, and nuts. You should also be made aware that woodchucks can eat yarrow, wood, trees, tree roots, seeds, shrubs, sunflowers, sunflower seeds, leaves, bark, roots, and herbs.

Rhubarb can be toxic to woodchucks especially the stalk, so woodchuck probably won’t eat it. Woodchucks aren’t known to eat rocks. A woodchuck could potentially end up eating rat poison, which would result in its death. Garlic tops, bread, dill, bee balm, horseradish, black eyed susans, and basil are ok for woodchucks to eat but that doesn’t mean that they will like the smell or taste. Some animals do eat poop, so it’s possible woodchucks will eat pop here and there.
