What Is A Squirrel Spinner?
Andrew Davis
Have you seen the squirrel-spinning bird feeder videos? Bird feeders with squirrel spinners are highly successful in preventing squirrels from taking bird food. The battery, on the other hand, is a major source of consumer dissatisfaction and confusion. Keeping squirrels away from the bird feeder appears to be an impossibility. It’s nearly an oxymoron to say that a squirrel-proof bird feeder exists. When squirrels are present, they can consume a huge amount of birdseed and take over a feeder, preventing birds from feeding. Squirrels may also nibble on plastic bird feeder pieces, causing them to break.

A determined squirrel, on the other hand, will find a way to the seed. Baffles could be placed to poles beneath or cables over the feeder to allow it harder for squirrels to access the feeder, however, this is not a bird feeder design. Furthermore, some foods, such as safflower seed, are less appealing to squirrels. Adding the chemical capsaicin (found in spicy peppers) to birdseed deters certain squirrels while having no effect on birds.
Some bird feeders are encased in a wire cage. Bigger squirrels, along with even bigger jays and blackbirds, are kept out by these. Smaller birds can readily enter and feed. Chipmunks and small squirrels may still get in. The feeding ports close when hefty squirrels put their weight against the perch to eat. Squirrels are intelligent, acrobatic, and determined creatures. They quickly outsmarted the feeder ports that were shutting. They dangle from the ceiling or stretch out from the side of the perch without touching it. Chipmunks, on the other hand, may not be hefty enough to activate the process.
