Where do gorillas sleep? - Kylon Powell
Caleb Butler
Gorillas are the largest animals in their habitat. Luckily, they have great climbing skills, so they can sleep in trees to avoid predators. There are two species of gorillas: The Eastern Gorilla is native to the forests of central Africa and the Mountain Gorilla is found in the mountains of central Africa. Overall, gorilla populations have suffered greatly due to poaching, loss of habitat, and disease transmission from humans. Gorillas build nests in which to sleep, both on the ground and in trees, made of leaves and branches.

A gorilla’s nest is called a “crater.” As the largest primate and one of the strongest animals in the world, a gorilla can construct a nest using just its hands. While large nests are made mostly with sticks and branches, smaller craters rely solely on leaves and tree trunks. No matter what type of nest is created, its purpose is primarily to offer shelter while sleep is pursued.
Do gorillas eat meat?
The gorillas are strictly vegetarian and they do not eat meat. Their main diet is made up of vegetable leaves, stems, vines, and fruit.
Do gorillas see in the dark?
There is no definitive answer to this question. There is a lot of misinformation about gorilla eyesight out there and I intend to try and set the record straight. From a scientist’s perspective, researching eyesight in gorillas can be challenging because we do not have access to wild gorillas. We do not run experiments on wild animals and looking into their eyes will definitely make them mad! Hopefully, by compiling data from several sources both scientific and anecdotal it will be possible to get a clear idea of gorilla night vision.
What is the lifespan of a gorilla?
Gorillas are the largest of all primates, besides humans. The lifespan of gorillas is between 35 and 45 years.
