Squirrels, which are related to rats and mice, are fascinating creatures. Their lifespan varies greatly based on each breed. If you encounter one as an adult, it rarely dies of natural causes such as “old age.” Those who survive past the age of one year in the wild can live to be six years old. Those who are more fortunate can live for up to 12 years if they can successfully evade predators. There are various possible causes for a squirrel’s abrupt death. One possibility is that it was a hawk’s meal that fell to the ground for whatever reason.

Rat poison is another possibility. You or a neighbor may be suffering from rat and mouse issues and have opted to poison them. An innocent squirrel was digging through the area and accidentally ate the poison.

 It’s advisable not to touch the deceased squirrel since you cannot tell what happened to them. They could have been afflicted with sickness and died as a result, and touching them could spread the disease to your pets or even cause you to contract it. It is allowed to dispose of the carcass. Simply make an attempt to securely seal the plastic bag in which the squirrel is placed.

After all, having the garbage collector handle a dead animal seems insensitive. Throwing a dead squirrel in the trash, on the other hand, is not against the law.

On the contrary, it is OK to dispose of a tiny dead animal in the trash if it is first placed in heavy-duty bags designed for this purpose.

You could remove the squirrel, put it elsewhere in your yard, and allow the decomposers to finish their work if you want a more natural approach.  Some people believe that saying a small prayer and giving a respectful send-off is something they must do. If this appeals to you, go for it.
