Telehandlers are used by contractors to raise a load up to height, typically when the ground conditions are not ideal. However, manufacturers have also designed these machines to be able to switch out traditional forks to accommodate a range of attachments like buckets and brooms, as well as work platforms and carriages, as in other attachments designed specifically for use that increase their flexibility and turn them into the traditional lift and place machine.
“Telehandlers are extremely adaptable machines. Contractors can benefit from that flexibility by choosing attachments that are best suited to their specific needs on the job site,” says Brian Boeckman the global product director of Telehandlers, JLG Industries. “In the majority of cases, Telehandlers can replace multiple machines simply by switching the attachment. Contractors will cut costs while making the most efficient utilization of their time if they can maximize the flexibility of the telehandler this way.”
“We offer a large range of attachments, enabling contractors to customize their equipment to specific applications, which helps to improve productivity and safety on a job site,” says Don Ahern, owner, Xtreme Manufacturing. “It can also reduce the need to have multiple pieces of equipment.”
Brent Coffey, loader product manager at the loader’s product manager at Wacker Neuson describes the Telehandler as “three machines in one.” “It’s a telehandler, skid steer, and wheel loader… multiple machines in one footprint,” Neuson says. “From a cost perspective, your ROI with a telehandler is very high because you don’t have to buy multiple machines.”
Due to its flexibility, it is typically the first machine you see on an industrial site and is the last one to leave, according to Anders Mantere, telehandler product manager at Genie. This is particularly true for smaller models.
