Why are cats afraid of balloons?
Robert King
Although they may not look like they do in our eyes, the balloons might appear to be flying predators to cats, who need to be cautious to stay away from the owls as well as other birds of prey. If you combine this with the bizarre movements and noises that balloons emit, it’s not a surprise that cats are more cautious.

It might appear like a stretch to think of our cats comparing an attractively colored globe to an uninvited predator, but instinct is very powerful. Cats who are scared of balloons do not take time to look at the balloon, instead, they are aware that something is that’s moving around their base and they’re compelled to flee.
Balloons Make Very Strange Sounds
As if it wasn’t enough for balloons to be terrifying to cats bizarre flying objects also have the capability of making quite strange sounds. One that sticks out to me the most is the screeching sound made after you put your hands upon the balloon.
The POP
Although the noises made by balloons as it travels throughout the house or your hands can be frightening in their own right, they’re not as frightening as the huge pop that balloons can produce. If your cat has had the pleasure of being around a kid and a balloon that bursts it, they saw the odd moves, hear the bizarre sounds, and finally hear the shocking pop. If your cat isn’t already terrified of balloons, it could be enough for the majority of cats to think they are to be a kind of monster in the near future.
Static Electricity
Although this could be the case for certain cats, it’s the least likely explanation and is why I placed it last on the list. It’s likely that the majority of cats will stay away from balloons from the moment they discover balloons suspended in the air. They will never get close enough to feel static electricity. However, static shocks appear to be a different technique balloons have on their sleeves when it comes to frightening cats.
