Why do baby birds hold their mouths open?

To stay cool, birds will often sit with their mouths open. In order to cool themselves down, birds pant like dogs, opening their mouths wide. Gular fluttering is the avian version of panting, and the term for this is ‘gular fluttering.’

Why do birds keep their beaks open?

The wet mucus membranes of the mouth and throat are cooled by evaporation when birds keep their beaks open in the heat of the summer. When the temperature rises above 40 degrees Celsius, birds pant in order to dissipate the heat.
