Why Is My Floor Sticky After I Mop?

Writer Caleb Butler

The only thing you’re doing when you mop with a traditional bucket and mop is spreading dirt around the floor. After you’ve mopped, you’ll notice that your floor is still sticky. Also, by leaving the floors damp, you’re allowing dirt from your shoes to be tracked back onto the surface.

How do you get rid of sticky floors after mopping?

One cup of vinegar to one gallon of water is all you need to make this cleaning solution. Spray the area you’re cleaning with the solution in a spray bottle. After about 15-20 minutes, mop the area.

Why does my floor feel sticky?

Sticky floors can be caused by using the wrong floor cleaner, leaving too much cleaning solution on the surface, or simply not rinsing with clean water after mopping the surface thoroughly enough. Using a clean mop and water, wipe down tile and wood floors to remove any remaining residue. To remove the sticky residue, use a steam mop to clean the surface.

How does vinegar clean sticky floors?

Dilute one cup of white vinegar in one gallon of water before using. Make it safe for any floor surface while still being strong enough to maintain its cleaning ability. To use, wet the mop, wring it out, and wipe the floor with it.
