Why is my samsung remote blinking red?

Writer Sarah Silva

The status indicator on the Samsung Remote flashes red repeatedly it means that your TV is no longer paired or the batteries of your remote are dying. It could be due to accidentally pressing the button for too long and then resetting the remote back to factory settings possibly due to sitting on it or by a child who was playing with the remote. If you notice that the Remote only works just a few inches away, it is either a sign that you have to remove and fix your remote.

In the beginning, you’ll need to reset your remote

  • Then, you need to remove the batteries.
  • Tap and hold the power switch for at least ten secs, or perhaps a bit longer.
  • Release the button now, and put in your batteries again.
  • Hold the Power/Pause button and the back button at the same time.
  • Your TV will begin connecting to the Smart Remote until you see the Pairing Complete message and indicates that the remote is successfully paired.

The different colors of light that flash on the remote mean:

  • There is a tiny LED on the remote on the left-hand side of the top.
  • It blinks in either Blue, Green, or Red.
  • If it flashes with a green light when you touch a key then your remote is operating properly.
  • Three times a blue blink indicates that the remote has just been moved or awoken from its sleep position which means it is ready to use.
  • If the blue light is constantly blinking, the signal is either too far away, or your television is not working.
  • A red flash usually indicates that the battery of your remote is insufficient or you have to connect it to your TV in the manner described in the previous paragraph.
  • If they don’t blink, the batteries are dead.

Fluorescent Lights:

Make sure to turn off any fluorescent light bulbs or other lights hanging over the television. Certain fluorescent or LED bulbs may interfere with the remote’s signal, causing problems for the remote.
