There have been numerous reports of dogs (and even coyotes) eating bird seed as a treat. Unless consumed in large quantities, fresh seed is unlikely to pose a significant health risk. If the seed is old or damp, it is easy for molds and fungi to grow on it, which can then produce mycotoxins.
